Project Overview
The main goal of this project was to give these young professional clients a backyard space to relax and recharge. A fireplace was high on their wish list and would be the focal point along with a new deck for this backyard makeover. A big part of the task was to correct a serious drainage problem that was causing water to pool in the backyard and run into the house. Once that was remedied, the patio, walls and fireplace were installed. The clients fell in love with 100 year old salvaged clay bricks for the patio and walkways so we chose natural stone materials for the walls and fireplace to complement the rustic look of the bricks. Manufactured stone steps lend a sleek and updated feel. By keeping the design fairly simple with clean lines the space still feels modern and fits the traditional style of the home. Low voltage landscape lighting softens the space at night, highlights the textures of the plants and natural stone creating a cozy and inviting space to enjoy a crackling fire.
