This new construction project was a blank slate. The homeowners wanted a cozy spot to hang out with family and friends and enjoy the wildlife in the small lake behind the home. Our task was to create an intimate space in a large and growing neighborhood. Before the patio construction could begin, a massive boulder retaining wall had to be installed to create a sturdy and level foundation that would stand the test of time and blend well with the surroundings. A minimalistic color palette dictated by the existing stone on the home and smooth textures of the paver and wall materials make the transition from the upper patio to the lower feel seamless and natural. The natural gas firepit is the focal point and popular gathering spot for the family to kick back and enjoy time together. Copper downlighting fixtures surrounding the patio and uplighting on the trees create a soft glow at night and makes this space feel warm and inviting. To create a buffer for street noise and walking traffic without obstructing views of the lake and adjacent golf course, we opted to plant large spruce trees along one side of the corner lot. They will provide much needed privacy for the patio space as this neighborhood expands in the future.
